Schlafly Farmers Market, Bottleworks, 7260 Southwest Ave, Maplewood MO- Wednesday, May 3rd, 4pm-7pm
After a rocky start to the season with the website and market newsletter, I am now back on track with BOTH! And now, moving on to a rocky start with the weather and worrying about the vendors and well being of my community. I am the market manager of two markets and the President of the Missouri Farmers Market Association. I have been writing blogs and market reports, having tele-conference board meetings, meeting with City staff, emailing with vendors and continually thinking about all of the rain and flooding and how it is impacting my local community, market vendors and so many livelihoods, homes and businesses.
I am happy to tell you at this moment, that we will have a market today. And so far we will have Three Rivers Farm, Buila Family Farm, Rosy Buck Farm, Green Door Farm and Eddington Farm as well as Baetje Cheese, maybe Farrar Out Farm, Trail Lodge Tea, Alpacas of Troy, Larder and Cupboard and The Nutty Bites. A few more are considering and waiting to commit. But I also hope to see Seed Geeks and The Tamale Man.
All of these commitments could change. As you know, road closures are ever changing. Some vendors will be taking an extra few hours to get to market using alternate routes. Some vendors are waiting to see if this additional rain is light or heavy and if they are going to be in a danger zone with flooding.
I wish I had brighter, more positive, uplifting reports. But what I do have is a great empathy, compassion and passion for our local, seasonal market producers and our small business entrepreneurs. I want to urge all of you, if at all possible to please stop by the market today and make some purchases to support those folks that are working and driving, extra above and beyond to set up and present their very best to you.
We will have market vendors, Schlafly beer samples, live music and by golly, we will have a good time!
Hope to see you at the market.
