I’m so excited to announce that the Schlafly Farmers Market will start taking SNAP as of the Wednesday, August 21 market. This has been a year in the making and finally we received our free processing machine from USDA and the Missouri Dept. of Agriculture.
For those that don’t know, SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program which is now the official name of the food stamp program. The name changed in the mid-90s when actual, physical stamps were phased out in favor of EBT (electronic benefits transfer) cards. In order to use SNAP at the market, one simply needs to come to the Schlafly Farmer Market booth on the west side of the market. There, they will receive tokens that can be spent on any SNAP-eligible items at the market.
Schlafly becomes the largest farmers market in St. Louis City or County that currently takes SNAP. We hope you will join us in spreading the word about this great news for the market and our community.
